After scouting for several months, the EIV team invited a dozen finalists to participate in the programme. Our selection criteria are informed by the Green Growth Strategy, Japan’s plan to reach net zero as initially set out by the Suga administration in 2020, and are streamlined into nine defined target areas. These areas were also shaped by Subscriber interest to create a strong base from which to select suitable ventures.
The ventures were given the chance to present their solutions and future plans via our monthly webinars. After the webinars were completed in August, our Subscribers were asked to vote on the ventures that were most aligned with their interests and would be good candidates to help tackle decarbonisation in the Japanese energy sector.
The two Honourees offer strong solutions to further the road to net zero, whether through low-cost thermal energy storage (Rondo Energy) or a carbon credit exchange platform (ACX).
Rondo Energy provides electric thermal energy storage solutions with its heat battery for low-cost, zero-emission industrial heat and power.
Marcell Zambo, Strategy & Business Development Lead, Europe, at Rondo Energy, commented:
Rondo Energy is delighted to be named as an Honouree of the latest ENECHANGE Insight Ventures cohort. We look forward to deepening our relationship with the network of innovators in our journey to use our technology to decarbonize the world’s energy-intensive industries.
ACX has developed a regulated exchange for carbon credit trading that leverages distributed ledger technology.
Thomas McMahon, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, at ACX, commented:
We are delighted to be an Honouree of ENECHANGE Insight Ventures. We look forward to developing more relationships through the network and accelerating our vision of creating a platform where sustainability meets the global economy.
Comment from Yohei Kiguchi, Representative Director & CEO of ENECHANGE Ltd. (organizer of EIV)
We are excited to have ACX and Rondo Energy as Honourees of EIV 2023 (1H). Both address critical challenges in carbon markets and industrial decarbonization respectively, which are key components in the global net-zero transition. We look forward to their potential to accelerate decarbonization in Japan especially given the relevance and interest to our network.
Congratulations to our Honourees, as well as to all our EIV 2023 first cohort members!
We would also like to extend our thanks to all our Subscribers for their continued support during this edition.
We are now scouting for the second cohort of ENECHANGE Insight Ventures 2023. If you are a venture in the energy tech space and are certain your solution would be a great fit for the Japanese market, contact a team member via Linkedin or learn more here.
