Qnovo offers embedded software intelligence that expands the functionality and performance of the lithium-ion battery within electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and consumer devices while greatly enhancing safety. Here, CEO Nadim Maluf explains how their solution helps enable the electrification revolution.
Can you tell us a bit about the company and its founders?
Qnovo was founded in 2010 by Dania Ghantous, Fred Berkwotiz, and myself to complement the battery with intelligent software. The fundamental premise is that computation is relatively inexpensive and can be used to accelerate the evolution of batteries, without the enormous capital expense of more complex manufacturing processes.
Today, Qnovo is the leader in battery intelligence, with over 45 patents in this space. We look to make the future of electrification a reality by providing simplified solutions to some of the most challenging problems our customers face.
How does your solution contribute to the Digitalisation and Decarbonisation of the energy sector?
As the industry pioneer in predictive battery management software, Qnovo is democratising technology through safe and intelligent design. We help to decarbonise the economy by increasing the reliability of batteries, thereby making more electric energy available. Qnovo provides a longer life for batteries, so fewer batteries make their way to landfills over time. Additionally, our software helps reduce the impact of electric vehicle recalls and major safety incidents due to latent manufacturing defects in the battery. We can pinpoint the exact batteries impacted within your entire vehicle fleet through real-time monitoring.
What is your company’s proudest achievement to date?
We are truly proud of shipping our solutions on over 150 million smartphones worldwide, including on devices in Japan. If we had to choose another achievement, it would be extending our battery intelligence from consumer electronics solutions to the transportation sector. By doing so, we are accelerating the introduction of features to electric vehicles that are both essential to drivers and integral to their mass adoption, such as fast charging, range, and battery safety.
What specifically attracts you to the prospect of expanding to the Japanese market?
Japan’s commitment to decarbonisation and renewable energy is admirable, as well as the Japanese market’s appreciation of the highest quality standards. By creating a new battery paradigm through software, Qnovo provides the platform for sustainable manufacturing excellence and design freedom that the people of Japan demand.
How will your solution/product help advance the Japanese energy sector?
Qnovo enables the electrification revolution for a more intelligent and resilient technology future. Our software-only solution will enable Japanese electric vehicles, energy storage systems and consumer electronics to power the masses effortlessly, reliably, and sustainably. We are focused on accelerating the adoption of batteries through impeccable safety records and best performance features.
